So You’re Thinking About Spring Break …

Rocky Mountains

If you’re like me, after a rough, cold winter of being cooped up indoors, I start craving two things: some adventure and some fresh outdoors! While many find themselves longing for a tan at the beach, there are a few of us that dare to break away from the predictable vacation, and instead, turn our cars towards Southwest Colorado to spend spring break in Durango. Our little slice of heaven is unlike any other place in the spring, blizzards turn into sunshine, 32 degrees feels like 50 under the mountain sun. There is something so amazing about the view of the snowy San Juans against a blue bird sky. Could this be the spring break your soul has been craving?

  1. Explore Purgatory:Snow fall averages 5-10 inches in Durango during March and April – but this year – only Mother Nature knows for sure, it could be much more!  Have you ever gone spring skiing? There’s something about it that brings people back every year. Purgatory is Durango’s local ski mountain, offering over 100 trails to explore and get your heart racing. There are different activities throughout the spring, such as the McDonald’s Cardboard Derby, wolf visits, and Alpenglow Evening Snowshoe Tours.
  2. Outdoor Adventures:Looking to try your hand at fly fishing? Chances of landing a real trophy are as good here as any place in western Colorado. The Animas River rates an 8.5/10. Our annual Spring Duranglers Fly Fishing Festival will be kicking off April 5th and 6th, 2019, and we have a special guest presenting this year: Hank Patterson!
