S’mores … Ooey Gooey Goodness for kids of all ages!

Delicious s'mores on a wooden plate

According to Wikipedia … “A s’more (sometimes spelled smore) is a traditional nighttime campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a fire-roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%27more

Did  you know the first published recipe for s’mores or “some mores” as they were called back in the day, was in Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts in 1927. Made over a campfire to the cries of some more, some more (hence the name s’more), Loretta Scott Crew is credited with creating this ever favorite treat.

Twenty-first century versions of this classic ooey gooey goodness vary as much as one’s imagination. How about a S’more Martini? With the invention of marshmallow-flavored vodka, it’s relatively easy to turn this childhood favorite into an adult beverage! Just add a dash of Kahlua, chocolate syrup and don’t forget the graham cracker rim.

A creative s'mores idea - s'mores martini!S’mores French Toast, we haven’t tried this yet for breakfast here at our Durango bed and breakfast, but you never know, maybe next Summer on National S’mores Day, August 10! Who could resist melted chocolate, gooey marshmallows inside two pieces of French Toast … I think we could coat it in graham cracker crumbs and add a healthy dose of chocolate shavings to finish it off.  S'mores French Toast

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention S’mores Cupcakes, S’mores Cookies, S’mores Pancakes and last but certainly not least in our book … S’mores Ice Cream!
