All aboard The Great Pumpkin Patch Express! This special Durango & Silverton Railroad experience is less than five miles from the Antlers on the Creek Bed & Breakfast. Your adventure begins with a half hour long train ride to the pumpkin patch where fun for all ages awaits. You’ll enjoy meeting the gang from Charlie Brown, listening to live music, decorating pumpkins, playing putt-putt golf, petting live reindeer, tasting beer & wine, and more! Fares start at just $35 for adults and $27 for children with trips running on Saturdays & Sundays October 6th through the 21st.

Falfa Pumpkin Patch

Prefer a more relaxed pumpkin patch experience? Head over to the family-owned Falfa Pumpkin Patch. This local pumpkin patch has been offering visitors the chance to pick their pumpkin right off the vine since 2008. They offer a wide variety of pumpkins including traditional carving pumpkins, decorative tabletop pumpkins, white pumpkins, and sweet sugar pumpkins, perfect for baking! It is the perfect way to spend a relaxing day in the fresh autumn air.

Homemade Pumpkin Pie

Fall is not complete without a delicious pumpkin pie. Bring home an extra pumpkin from the patch for this homemade pumpkin pie recipe:



  • 1 1/3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 3 1/2 tbl cold water


  • 2 c mashed, cooked pumpkin
  • 12 fl oz evaporated milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 c packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Crust: Preheat your oven to 400°F then begin preparing the pie crust. Mix together the flour and salt. Then, using two knives cut the shortening into the flour by slicing across in opposite directions until the shortening is about the size of peas. Add cold water 1 tbl at a time. This will create a delicious flaky crust. Next, using lightly floured hands, shape the dough into a ball, roll out to about 1/8 inch thick, and then ease dough into the bottom of the pie pan. (If you’re short on time feel free to use a prepared pie crust as well).

Fresh Mashed Pumpkin: Using a 1 1/2 lb pumpkin, halve and scoop out seeds & stringy portions. Cut pumpkin into chunks, and place in saucepan with about 1 inch of water over medium heat, bring to boil. Once the chunked pumpkin is boiling reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes or until a fork slides easily into the pumpkin. Drain, cool, remove the peel, and then return to the saucepan to mash.

Filling: In a large bowl, beat your mashed pumpkin with evaporated milk, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt with an electric mixer. Mix well and pour into your prepared crust. Bake for 40 minutes or until knife comes out clean. Cool & serve!
