Falling into Autumn in Durango, Colorado

Durango Colorado fall foliage

Autumn is making an early appearance here at Antlers on the Creek. Our leaves have started to change and evenings are quite chilly already. We are excited to start using our new outdoor fireplace during Happy Hour, which by the way will feature heartier fare and more robust beer! I cannot wait for Hot Apple Cider …

Autumn is not only beautiful around Durango and the High Country but much more relaxed. Kids are back in school and our Guests tend to be couples looking for outdoor adventures or just hanging out in the Gardens; some are taking advantage of our massage therapist, Cheryl, and booking an extraordinary afternoon massage (take it from me, she IS extraordinary!)

Durango truly has some of the best Colorado fall foliage, plus autumn ushers in a menu full of fall favorites at our Durango bed and breakfast… Pumpkin Scones, Port Pears, Apple Pancakes and Cranberry Apple French Toast just to name a few. I’m sure Chef Kurtis has more tricks up his sleeves. I’m salivating just writing this!

Durango Cowboy Poetry GatheringAutumn in Durango has it’s own unique array of things to do. The Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering comes to town September 29th bringing a round-up of American Cowboy heritage and culture. This year’s premier performer is Wylie Gustafson; Wylie and his band have performed worldwide. Their music is a refreshing mix of Cowboy, Swing, Folk and even yodeling! You can catch the Cowboy poet train on Friday and enjoy performances in each car with a BBQ lunch in Cascade Canyon. Don’t forget to partake in the Cowboy Parade on Saturday morning, Colorado’s largest motorless parade. This year there is even a Cowboy Comedy Revue … definitely something for everybody!

Durango Colorado fall foliageAutumn, of course, means Halloween and Durango celebrates with The Great Pumpkin Patch Express on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. You can ride the train to the Pumpkin Patch to meet Charlie Brown & Snoopy, stars of the 1966 animated television show, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” based on the comic by Charles M. Schulz. It’s hard to believe it’s the 50th Anniversary of this classic Autumn tale!

As you can probably tell by now, Autumn is my favorite time of year. So if you’re in the mood for some relaxation taking in some breathtaking Colorado fall foliage make your reservation at Antlers on the Creek, Durango’s #1 Luxury Bed & Breakfast and Prepare to be Pampered!
