Adventures Abound in Durango

Water Adventures

Durango Offers Adventures for All!

Some of the most scenic views in Colorado can be seen from a journey on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. Follow the Animas River on this historic railroad, built in 1882 to haul silver and gold out of the San Juan Mountains. Throughout its colorful history, one thing remains true. This steam powered train chugs through an amazing part of the San Juan National Forest and offers something for everyone.

For Railroad Lovers of All Ages:

The Railroad Depot offers a historical museum located in Historic Downtown Durango,  This Durango diamond is open to the public at no charge! So, needless to say, the museum has many fans among our visitors. May through October, at 10:30 and 2:30 daily, the Yard Tours delight travelers of all ages. DSNGRR employees escort you around the train yard while explaining the ins and outs of a working railroad. You will visit the Machine Shop where rail cars are kept up to snuff.  Watch train staff restore antique cars in the Car Shop. And check out the Turntable where engines are disconnected from the body of the train and put to bed at night. Definitely a sight to see in Durango.
