Some of the most scenic views in Colorado can be seen from a journey on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. Follow the Animas River on this historic railroad, built in 1882 to haul silver and gold out of the San Juan Mountains. Throughout its colorful history, one thing remains true. This steam powered train chugs through an amazing part of the San Juan National Forest and offers something for everyone.

The Railroad Depot offers a historical museum located in Historic Downtown Durango, This Durango diamond is open to the public at no charge! So, needless to say, the museum has many fans among our visitors. May through October, at 10:30 and 2:30 daily, the Yard Tours delight travelers of all ages. DSNGRR employees escort you around the train yard while explaining the ins and outs of a working railroad. You will visit the Machine Shop where rail cars are kept up to snuff. Watch train staff restore antique cars in the Car Shop. And check out the Turntable where engines are disconnected from the body of the train and put to bed at night. Definitely a sight to see in Durango.
Calling All Thrill Seekers: Water Adventures!
Not afraid of getting wet? Then Raft and Rails is the Durango Rivertrippers package for you! Enjoy a two hour rafting trip through whitewater down the Animas River, then shuttle to Silverton along the Million Dollar Highway. Ride back to Durango on the DSNGRR at the end of a fun filled day.

Actors, in authentic period costumes, portray historical figures from the American Southwest Boom Days, including railroad entrepreneur Otto Mears, Durango Record founder Caroline Romney, and Robert Dwyer, Durango’s first Marshall.
Music Lovers Rejoice … There’s a train for you:
The Durango Blues Train features live blues performances on board twice a year. Each artist performs in their own vintage coach while passengers dance their way from coach to coach. An exciting 3.5 hour moving musical experience … definitely an event not to pass up if music is your passion! Leave the kiddies at home because this an adult only train.
